Forest for the Trees:
New Works By Heidi Jung
Opening reception, First Friday, March 2nd, 6-10pm
Show runs through Saturday, April 7th
Ironton Studios presents an exhibition of the latest works from artist Heidi Jung. Jung has been a resident of Ironton for over 10 years. She will be displaying her largest works to date, including a predominant piece, 8' x 17' in dimension. These are both a continuation of her evolving approach to botanical subject matter and a discourse on society.
"Our life is frittered away by detail... simplify, simplify."
Henry David Thoreau
One of the things that clearly distinguishes humans from the rest of the Animal Kingdom is our ability and drive towards pattern-seeking; indeed it is a foundation of our intelligence. This has been of great advantage to us, most certainly, but having mastered our environment we now find ourselves encumbered by an orgy of minutia, aided and abetted by gadgets and expectations.
Any person in today's world can find themselves with their nose to the grindstone and the magnifying glass, the means to pull back and take in the broader scope being hampered by the sweating of the small stuff - when the power in the straightforward could be of greater value.
Forest for The Trees considers the notion of detachment from detail and the engagement with the bigger picture in the everyday.
